What seems to be the matter here? For the past several days I just couldn't upload any music to my profile page. All the while I thought having broadband would solve a lot of problems regarding updating stuff over here...
Advantages: - No traffic hassles with the N/SLEX
- Not bumping into the creeps you wanted to avoid back home at your favourite beach
- Not fretting over being too late for a room booking
- Lots of time to catch up with reading
Disadvantages: - Being reminded by Mom to avoid movies, loud and upbeat music, and even gaming because it's "Holy Week"
- Having to go to church with her - especially on Holy Thursday and Good Friday
- Yeah - forgot; nothing much to see at the cinemas or on TV either (but now that we have cable and YouTube, what's the big deal?)
- Thinking about my friends out there as usual, soaking up the sun, getting laid and all that...while I'm here, jobless and nearly broke. My Mom keeps reminding me to "sacrifice" this Holy Week...isn't staying here at home already ENOUGH!!!!
Sure...it's just another summer, one filled with regret over missed opportunities.
Is it just me or do I have unreasonably high standards... I don't want to come off as being arrogant or - as they say in Tagalog - "mahangin" but I've always taken pride in my unusual last name. Sure, I've endured my share of unwarranted taunts about the cultural origin of my surname, and to this day I had to deal with government clerks who still struggle to get its spelling right, but I still think (yeah, hope against hope) that my name could've landed me a job in showbiz. Just look at a lot of our local movie stars. Whether they adopt stage names for convenience or not, it has always been the case for talent scouts over here to build up an "international" roster of "Pinoy" talents. You get so many hyphenated Pinoys in local showbiz that someone like Marky Cielo - with his Igorot roots - comes off like a breath of fresh air. On the other hand, you wonder what is it in local showbiz that gives Fil-Ams, Fil-Aussies, Fil-Norwegians and other Fil-(fill in the the ethnic/nationality blank)s incentive to endure the traffic and pollution, not to mention the horrendous peace and order situation here. Is it small wonder why the celebrity turnout at the recent anti-GMA rallies was suspiciously low? I guess with a lot of them holding dual citizenship, they can always slip by the backdoor when worse comes to worst. Going back to that issue about my name...even with that, I still look "Chinese". Many who get to see me for the first time often mistake me for either a Chinese, a Japanese or a Korean. I don't get mistaken - surprisingly - for a European, though the way I speak English as well as introduce myself does get me easier access to particular establishments than many (again, you can call me "mayabang" but that's just me.) Nevertheless, I keep asking myself why is it that I haven't yet settled down even as I am about to hit the big four-oh. Is it because I am still finding the financial stability that has so far been elusive...could it be because I still don't have a car...if not, what then? About transportation...yes, it always is a plus factor in the desirability index (especially if one's eyeing the mestiza party-hoppers - they always look for guys who can whisk them from one gimik to another in a snap). Only thing is, what's holding me back from getting a driver's license is the fact that my Mom can't trust me behind the wheel - she thinks I'm still a hot-head who can't deal with traffic. More than that, when one gets to buy a car, there are a shitload of expenses to deal with - annual registration, gas, insurance, spare parts, even parking. But if I ever get to choose a car - provided my finances are stable - I'd definitely NOT go for an SUV. Give me a sporty-looking sedan anytime...a pickup can also do But no boaty-looking gas-guzzling Navigators or Escalades for me. Two other things - more urgent ones - that I need to call to my attention as I ease myself back in the hunt; my body and face. Once I get hired, I do intend to return to the gym - which is why I've managed to save a good chunk of my backpay for that eventuality. Once I do so, I intend to maintain a twice-a-week routine, mostly during my days-off for convenience. That should give me time to get my body back in fighting form. If my schedule may still allow, I'd like to take up either surfing or wake-boarding as well as any martial art. Just because I'm starting to hit 40 doesn't mean I have to slow down....no, not yet! Look at Harrison Ford, he's past 60 but he's risking his hipbone doing his OWN stunts for the upcoming "Indiana Jones" film. As for my face...well, I've long been conscious of my rather round face. That, coupled with my bushy eyebrows and "Chinese" eyes, give me a somewhat odd appearance in casual shots. There are times when I appear to look half-asleep...even when I train my eyes to the camera, I feel that my face looks too big (particularly when I wear my hair short). Then again, I could compensate for these shortcomings...a lot of knowledge and a little bit of humor does help. That plus a positive outlook on life and ample outlets for release.
I've been trying to access my Last.fm account but couldn't. All I get is the "Cannot Find Server" screen. I try to refresh but it still shows the same. That also goes for some Yahoo! image searches. Can't I get a break even with broadband... However, I did finally set up my own YouTube account.... http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=iwasanangryyoungman
It's my second week over here at my new job (actually I'm still under evaluation...might be signing up my probationary contract by next week if all goes to plan). I've just been given my first quota - 5 articles per day. Over the past week I've been averaging 4 in a day, so 5 seems attainable. The bad news is...Facebook and Friendster have been blocked, even at the computer over at the rec room cum meeting room. (Caution: maximum rantage ahead!!!) By the way, what's with the rain that really gets my inner Seinfeld going? Yeah, sure, as a Filipino, I do have to get used to the fact that there are two seasons over here and we are in for a wet Christmas rather than a white one. Then again, when the best raingear one can find is over at your neighborhood ukay-ukay, why not? How about when sidestreets flood even when the downpours are not attached to any "tropical storm" (why "tropical"??? Are there no "temperate" storms? Is there some sort of meteorological discrimination going on around here?) When will our countrymen (and women) ever know that dumping one's trash on esteros and canals does lead to DIRE consequences - when they see their loved one fall in an excavation pit covered in murky floodwater? Let's not get into the way some small-scale transport providers (i.e., taxis, tricycle drivers) suddenly seem to sprout horns when faced with flooded routes (with the holdiay season fast approaching, Satan must be having a field day especially with the Makati CBD taxi operators). How, then, about utilities like telephone cables - sure, PLDT is raking in millions from its near-monopoly of land-based telecoms services, but can't they just spare some change for weather-proofing their cables? Over the weekend, my dial-up's gone pretty fucked up...from 50-52kbps to a ridiculously SLOOOOW 4-6kbps last Sunday (as of late, it has gone back up, but at 24-32kbps, still damn slow in my book). I checked with my dial-up ISP and PLDT customer service, they are not having any prioblems - especially the former; they even said that it might have to do with my telephone line. All the more reason why I'm finally dead-set on getting broadband over the next two months.
